Concrete mixer explanation


 Concrete mixer have many differrent types.


First one, drum type which you see everyday in your neighbourhood also. These type of mixers have mixing blades which fixed to drum body. These mixers are fed material manually to mix.

There is no weighing control on it, it's totally a manual operation.

Except the mixing drum is rotated through power or engine.

They are useful for small construction sites but when we talk about large construction sites  we find these mixers too small so we need bigger and automated systems for better speed of operation, better quality, better in control for ready mixed concrete.


The raw material is fed to mixer by machines after weighing.

Measurement mode in these types of installations is high and electtonic loadcell based.

And the whole system is hooked up to a PLC for control.

In such cases we have horizontal shaft mixers.


Twin shaft mixers or horizontal shaft mixers are most popular design of mixers

Because of their large capacity and versatility and ease operation.

Shafts are installed with paddles and mixing arms which rotate in opposite directions.

By a set of two gears mounted on shaft the outside of trough.

The shafts are connected to a single gearbox and twin gears are known as the drive mechanism of mixer.

The mixer discharge system is from bottom--Gravity discharge it is also known as batch mixer or JS series mixer. J stand for Jiao in Chinese means Mixing, S stand for Shuang, means the mixer got twin shafts.

Twin shaft mixer name is after the discharge volumes. JS500 model is discharge 500L concrete, JS2000 model is discharge 2000L concrete, the volume is the material they able to handle for one batch mixing.

The most well selling mixer is JS1000, very matured in the market.

The critical parts of a batch mixer are :drive mechanism, transimission device, shaft seals, mixer body/ drum, top cover, lubrication system for gearbox and mixer, maintenance observation window, materail liting hopper, door cylinders, maintenance walk way, support legs etc.

Our mixer used planetary gearbox, its got stable transmission, big in Torque, very reasonable in price.

Other mixer may use harden teeth gearbox, its got big noise, big in volume, not easy to broke, due to the size weight and noise of it, customer like planetary type gearbox more.

The most important part of the mixer, to me, is the Lubrication system. The oil moisture the shaft seal often, so that the machine runs more smoothly. Without the lubrication system, the shaft rough, and difficult to mix, then the leak started. First is the water, then the sand, final is the stones.

You have to keep your eye on the lubrication system, adding oil on time.

The mixer arms got 60°angle in between, used the stability of the triangle. So the arms will never fight to each other. The water feeding is directly toward the shaft, so it can cleans off the left over on the shaft, to avoide bearing lock. The top cover can be designed with limit switch. When mainatence in progress, the machine will stop working. But what if the other engineer do not know someone is in the mixer? What we do is, we made the observation window small, so no one can go through it. If you want to maintain the inside of the mixer body, you have to take the entire top cover off. More safer than the limit switch.


Select the correct oil for gearbox, Mobil 629 is the best.

Making sure there is no object in the oil tank, and during the oil adding.

Checking the oil tag timely.

Oil lubrication using No. 0 calcium base grease, make sure the oil is always engough for the machine.
